Day 60: Miller Lake to Owen Sound

The Prairies in Ontario

This morning we awoke to a gorgeous ride through quiet fields rich with canola - the classic Prairie views which we never saw in the Prairies. The morning air was so soft and sweet- hence another haiku.

Sweet soft morning air
Hay bales resting quietly
All is right today.

Brilliant Hues

Brilliance of yellow
Pink Sweet Pea, Tiger Lilies
Eruption of hues!

After a lovely morning ride the sun came out really really hot so we stopped on a quiet beach on Lake Huron and simply walked into the water..... Brrrrr Here is my haiku for that.

Delicious Numbness

Delicious numbness
Submerged in the lake, clothes on.
Ah..... Inferno cools.

Later that evening at the campsite we dipped again, submerged in mini rapids. That was lovely.

Finally, here is the updated
version of One Strong Wind. (sung to the tune of Four Strong Winds)

One Strong Wind

One strong wind from the East
Seven rainstorms every week
These are things that don't change
Come what may

But the good times are not gone
We're just bound for moving on
Looking for some friendly sun and wind some day

The Northwest wind, it began to blow
Down in Southern Ontario
And the sun, it finally began to shine
And we left that dread highway.
And gave thanks for that every day
No more troubles, everything was turning out so mighty fine.

Five strong bikers now in gear,
With nothing left to fear,
Everything was really starting to go their way,
Then the road got really bumpy,
And we all got kind of grumpy,
Cause Alan and Shane, they both broke spokes that fateful day......,

Stay tuned for the next
installment!

  2. Inexorable easterly progress cannot be denied despite whatever the elements may do - important to be the willow rather than the oak at those critical times. We will be watching with great care as you negotiate the big smoke that some think is canada's true face, but we know it is not the iconic part so tread with awareness. You will be happy to know the boat is freed from it's mold and sits jauntily in the shop awaiting more sanding and epoxy. Still a ways from the launch, but the promise is there. Anxiously awaiting the next entry your loonships.
